Password Boss stores a history of changes made to your password items and secure notes. Password and note history allow you to view previous versions, recover overwritten information, and track edits over time.
What Password & Note History Tracks
Overview
Password Boss automatically maintains a version history for items that support revision tracking. This includes:
- Changed passwords
- Updated secure notes
- Edits to existing item fields
Each entry in the history includes the timestamp and details of the previous version.
When History Is Useful
History helps you:
- Recover an older password
- Restore deleted or overwritten note content
- Investigate when—and how—an item was changed
- Undo accidental edits

Restoring a Previous Version

When you restore a version:
- The selected version becomes the current version.
- The previously current item becomes another history entry.
- No history is deleted when you revert.
Steps to Restore
- View the item’s history.
- Select a previous version.
- Choose Restore Version.
- Confirm the restoration.
Which Items Support History
Items with Full History
- Passwords
- Notes on Digital Wallet and Personal Info
- Secure Notes
Items with Limited or No History
Some item types may not track all changes or may only save partial revisions. For full version recovery, use Passwords or Secure Notes.
Common Reasons to Use History
Recovering Overwritten Passwords
If a password was changed unintentionally or replaced during a migration, history allows quick recovery.
Undoing Edits to Notes
If note content was modified or overwritten—intentionally or by accident—history lets you retrieve earlier text.
Migration & Sync Troubleshooting
If items appear inconsistent across devices, reviewing history helps determine when the last valid version was saved.
Limitations and Considerations
Device Sync
If an item was edited while a device was offline, the version shown in history reflects its last synced state.
Deleted Items
History is only available for items that still exist. Deleted items do not retain their history.
Best Practices for Using History
Review Before Restoring
Always check the timestamp and details to ensure you're restoring the correct version.
Use Descriptive Note Content
Clear note content makes version comparisons easier.
Sync Devices Regularly
To maintain accurate version timelines, open Password Boss on your devices periodically to allow syncing.
