Browser Buttons are lightweight extensions that bring Password Boss directly into your browser, enabling automatic login detection, password saving, secure autofill, and seamless access to your vault while browsing. This guide explains how to install the Browser Buttons on every supported platform, includes advanced usage notes, and outlines troubleshooting steps and best‑practice recommendations.
What Browser Buttons Are
Browser Buttons are small browser extensions designed to:
- Detect new logins and offer to save them
- Autofill usernames, passwords, and form data
- Provide quick access to stored items from within the browser
- Connect securely with the Password Boss Desktop App (where installed)
They operate per‑browser and per‑profile, allowing you to enable the Browser Button on as many browsers as you use.
Platform-Specific Installation Steps

WebApp
The Password Boss WebApp runs inside your browser and does not install extensions itself. If the WebApp recommends installing a Browser Button, it links you to your browser’s official extension store.
Once you have logged in, you will be prompted to install the extension. This extension is essential for Password Boss to automatically fill in your login and personal information on website forms.
You can easily install the browser plugin for Chrome, Firefox or Edge by clicking on Menu > Get Apps.

Use the Chrome extension for all Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Brave, and Vivaldi for example
Chrome
WebApp users can click on Menu → Get Apps → Chrome; then enable the extension.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Install Chrome button.

- When the web page opens, click the ADD TO CHROME button to display a small pop-up window.
- Click the Add extension button to begin the installation.
FireFox
WebApp users can click on Menu → Get Apps → Firefox; then enable the extension.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Install Firefox button.

- In the pop-up, click OK to continue.
- When the web page opens, check the box to Allow this installation and then click Continue.
Brave
WebApp users can click on Menu → Get Apps → Chrome; then enable the extension.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Install Brave button.

- When the web page opens, click the Add to Opera button to display a small pop-up window.
- Click the Add extension button to begin the installation.
Vivaldi
WebApp users can click on Menu → Get Apps → Chrome; then enable the extension.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Install Vivaldi button.
- On the web page that opens click the Add to Vivaldi button.
- Click Add Extension.
- The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
Edge
WebApp users can click on Menu → Get Apps → Edge; then enable the extension.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Install Edge button.
- On the web page that opens click the Install button.
- After the extension is installed click the Launch button
- Edge will open.

After Edge opens you will see a prompt to turn on Password Boss. Click Turn it on.

Click the 3-dots menu
that is located on the right of the address bar. - Click on Extensions.
- If you see Password Boss in the list make sure the label says "On".

- If the extension shows off, double-click it to open the settings.
- Slide the switch to "On".

- To have the owl icon show next to the address bar (recommended) turn this setting "On".

- The extension is now installed and should be working normally.
Safari
Safari is currently not supported with the WebApp version of Password Boss with an Extension - updates are coing soon.
For legacy users of Password Boss:
- Open Password Boss
- At the top of the app, click the Browser Buttons menu and choose Manage Safari Button.

- The extensions manager in Safari will open.

Check the box next to Password Boss if it is not already checked.
- The extension is now installed and should be working normally.
Advanced Use Cases
Using Browser Buttons with Multiple Browsers
Each browser manages its own extension installation. You can install Browser Buttons in:
- Chrome and most Chromium-based browsers
- Edge
- Firefox
- Safari (macOS only)
This is recommended for users who switch between work and personal browsers.
Installing for Multiple Profiles
Chrome and Edge support multiple browser profiles.
You must install the Browser Button per profile.
Example:
If you have both Work and Personal Chrome profiles, each profile needs its own installation to function correctly.

Troubleshooting
Browser Button Not Connecting
Try:
- Use Manage the extension, and disable the extension, then reenable to reset the connection
- Restarting the browser
- Restarting the Desktop App (Legacy users)
- Confirming only one Password Boss extension is installed
- Checking VPN or proxy settings that may block extension communication
Installation Blocked
Possible causes:
- Corporate policy restrictions
- Browser security settings
- Extension store access blocked by firewall rules
Button Not Appearing After Install
Check:
- The extension panel to ensure it is enabled
