Password Boss uses Autofill to log you into Android apps and in Chrome. Autofill requires Android 8 (Oreo) or later.

If your device is on Android 7 or earlier, Password Boss does not currently offer an automatic login method for apps or Chrome. You can still find and copy your saved passwords manually from within the Password Boss app. Updating your device to Android 8 or later will restore automatic login through Autofill.

Autofill-enabled apps will show you your saved logins next to the username and password fields, similar to this:

Autofill

Requires application developers to make changes to their apps to support Autofill, which means even if your device is on Android 8+, and you have enabled Autofill in Password Boss, not all apps can be filled in with Autofill.

When logging into apps, you will see any saved passwords for the app you are opening. If you have not saved any passwords in Password Boss for the app you are logging in to, you will be prompted to save the password in Password Boss after you manually log in to the app.

Password Boss verifies to confirm if your saved password is valid for any app you log in to with a saved password. If the application developer has followed all of the implementation guidelines from Google for implementing Autofill in their app, Password Boss will be able to verify that your saved password matches the app you are logging in to. If Password Boss cannot confirm the identity of the application you are trying to log in to, you will see an "Unverified app" notice when you log in to the app.  Password Boss will still log you into the app, but it is up to you to confirm you are using the correct app.

With Autofill, you can:

• Login to Autofill-enabled apps with a saved password
   
• Login to Autofill apps and save a new password into Password Boss while logging in.
   

Password Boss Browser

The browser built into Password Boss provides more functionality than either the Autofill or accessibility options when you are logging into websites.  The Password Boss browser is not involved when you log in to apps.

There is nothing to enable with the Password Boss browser. All options work immediately with no setup.

With the Password Boss browser, you can:

• Login to apps with a saved login.
   
• Login to apps and save a new password in Password Boss while logging in.
   
• Login to a website with a saved password.
   
• Login to a website and save a new password while logging in.
   
• Use Identities in Password Boss to fill in forms on websites like online checkout forms.
   
• Fill in credit card info on checkout pages.
   
• Change passwords on websites and automatically save the new password into Password Boss.
    

Do you need to enable Autofill?

If your device is on Android 8 or later, enable Autofill to log in to apps and Chrome — see the steps below. Accessibility is no longer available on any device, regardless of Android version.

How to enable Autofill

1. Open Password Boss, and from the top left, tap the menu icon
    
2. Tap Settings from the left menu.
    
3. In the Login for Android Apps section tap Use autofill with Password Boss top login to apps. (Oreo+). 
   
   
   
    
4. In the Autofill service screen tap the circle to enable Password Boss. 
   
   
   
    
5. Tap OK to trust the Password Boss app. 
   
   
   
    
6. Autofill is now enabled.

Troubleshooting: Autofill not working in Chrome

If Chrome isn't offering your saved Password Boss logins, work through these steps in order:

1. Confirm Password Boss is set as your device's autofill service — not just enabled inside the Password Boss app. Go to Android Settings → System → Languages & input → Autofill service and confirm Password Boss is selected there. This is the most common reason Autofill appears “enabled” in the app but doesn't work in Chrome.
    
2. Open Chrome → Settings → Autofill (or Passwords, depending on your Chrome version) and confirm Chrome's own built-in password saving and autofill are not turned on and overriding Password Boss.
    
3. Force-stop Chrome after changing the autofill service, then reopen it. Android caches the active autofill service per app, and a running Chrome instance may not pick up the change until it's restarted.
    
4. Update both your Android OS and Chrome app to their latest available versions, then test again.

Why do I only see a PIN option instead of biometrics?

Password Boss uses your device's own biometric system (fingerprint or face unlock) to unlock the app. On older devices that don't meet current Android biometric hardware or software standards, that option isn't available — Password Boss will only offer a PIN to unlock the app instead.

This is a device limitation, not a Password Boss setting. If your device doesn't support Autofill or biometrics, both are tied to the same underlying Android version and hardware requirements — updating to a newer, supported device is the only way to restore both.
